Kancho Hatsuo Royama founder of kyokushin-kan International .

INTERNATIONAL KYOKUSHINKAN KARATE-DO ORGANIZATION

The International Kyokushinkan Karate-Do Organization was established on January 13, 2003. Among its founders were Masutatsu Oyama's students faithful to his precepts and concerned with the present position of Kyokushin Karate and negative trends in its development. Hatsuo Royama, the legendary master and the student of the three greatest martial arts masters of the XX century (Masutatsu Oyama, Kenichi Sawai (Taikiken School founder) and Hideo Nakamura (Kendo-Kai School founder)), silver prizewinner of the First World Kyokushinkai Karate Tournament, 9th dan.

From the very beginning of the International Organization's activities its leaders have chosen the democratic development that takes into account the interests and specific character of operational conditions of Kyokushin Karate-Do organizations of all the countries that made the decision to join Kyokushinkan. The Kyokushinkan Organization is the international non-profit organization in the precise value of this term, and it cooperates not with branch chiefs but with national federations. Undoubtedly, such structure plays a great role in attraction of those national organizations oriented to cooperation with state authorities governing physical culture and sports, interested in the creation of really powerful organizations able to work for the welfare and prestige of the country.

Such position of the Japanese leaders and personally Kyokushinkan President Hatsuo Royama himself enabled the International Organization to quickly establish efficient working contacts with other Kyokushin organizations and organizations of other Karate Schools and martial arts in various countries. Exchange of letters and personal meetings of Mr. Royama with the International Federation of Karate (IFK) President S. Arneil and his closest associate and President-Founder of Russian Kyokushinkai Federation A.I. Tanyushkin were of the historic importance, the more so as in the yearly 1990s they having protected the interests of their national federations dared to disobey wishes of Masutatsu Oyama and, as the result, were excluded from IKO. Discussion on the modern position of Kyokushin and its development prospects showed the Kyokushinkan and IFK leaders have no divergences concerning any matters of principle but have serious opportunities for the development of mutually beneficial partnership.

One of the main principles of the International Kyokushinkan Karate-Do Organizations is the providing of equal opportunities for the federations being its members. To support national organizations of the countries falling behind by the level of economic development and national welfare the countries - members of Kyokushinkan Organization are divided into the 4 categories subject to recommendations of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development; an individual membership fee taking into account the organizations' real capabilities is fixed for each of these categories. Thereby the serious injustice was removed, and favourable conditions for Kyokushinkan development in all countries were created.

By now, the national federations of more than 30 countries became the International Kyokushinkan Organization members. Japan Kyokushin Karate-Do Federation Kyokushinkan and Russian Kyokushinkan Karate-Do Federation are the strongest members of the International Organization. These will be their athletes who most likely will contend for the World Championship medals.

The International Kyokushinkan Karate-Do Organization is the organization that develops at an extremely quick pace. Every year, it organizes a great number of sports events in various countries: seminars, exams for master's and student's degrees, official competitions, show, and publishes training aids and the popular magazine "Tenchi Ikken" ("Fist of the Universe") in Japanese and Russian. Kyokushinkan established close contacts with the Chinese Wushu Federation and organizes friendly matches of Kyokushin fighters with masters of Sanda (the modern Chinese contact martial combat based in Wushu tradition). Such matches are destined to give a new impulse to the development of Kyokushin Karate-Do as the highly efficient martial art and engrossing type of sports. The Kyokushin Shogakukai Fund resumed its work after the long interruption thanks to the Kyokushinkan leaders' efforts. This Fund was founded by Masutatsu Oyama for the financial support of Kyokushin Karate practitioners from poor families and foreign trainees coming to Japan.

In addition to its main sports activities the International Kyokushinkan Karate-Do Organization also takes an active part in the unmanageable children rehabilitation programs in a number of countries. These activities receive good reaction in the society, approval and support from the state and non-governmental organizations engaged in the field of education.

The name of the current President of the International Kyokushinkan Karate-Do Organization Hatsuo Royama is connected with Russia and Russian Karate development for fifteen years already. The Master visited the Soviet Union for the first time in 1990 as the head of delegation that consisted of the 22 Kyokushin fighters. They took part in the Martial Arts Festival in Kiev and showed spectacular fights; they also took part in the tournament together with the team of strongest fighters of the USSR brought to the Ukrainian capital by A.I. Tanyushkin. In the same year, Masutatsu Oyama appointed Hatsuo Royama the person responsible for Kyokushin development in the USSR.

On the death of Kyokushin School founder Masutatsu Oyama in April 1994, Hatsuo Royama was appointed the curator of the former USSR regions and Far East countries. In 2001, he presented the honorable black belt (5th Dan) to V.V. Putin, the President of the Russian Federation.
